ASM Helps the Young Generation Fall in Love over Social Media by Accelerating Application Mesh Deployment

Hangzhou Xiaoyu Technology was founded in 2015 and offers a variety of mature products including CP and Warm Chat. The company has tens of millions of registered users, hundreds of thousands of daily active users, and an elite team of nearly 100 employees. The core product “CP” (one week CP → red blue CP → CP) is one of the most popular dating apps on the market. It has a global user base consisting primarily of college students and young professionals. Adopting an all-new social networking approach that is surprising and fun, CP quickly caught on among the young generation born after 1995.
As our operations continue to expand, the technical team chose Kubernetes + Istio to improve resource utilization, elastic scalability, and traffic management. However, because service mesh technology is a complex and rapidly developing new technology, the operation and use of the service mesh components posed a challenge for the technical team. At the same time, self-deployed service meshes also contain much knowledge that needs to be integrated into other cloud products.
Upon consideration, the customer chose to use Alibaba Cloud Service Mesh ASM to solve these problems. Alibaba Cloud Service Mesh adopts a hosting architecture to fully manage the service mesh control plane. This means the user does not have to worry about the O&M of control plane components and can focus on business rule configuration. As a result, the service mesh environment can go into operation faster. At the same time, ASM provides link tracking, operation auditing, log collection, public ingress gateways, diagnostics, and other features without any preparatory work required, greatly improving the efficiency of application meshing. After deciding on a solution, the team found that ASM allowed them to quickly complete the application mesh deployment, significantly reducing their time and manpower costs.
With the capabilities provided by the Alibaba Cloud Service Mesh, we quickly set up link tracking, gateway log visualization, and achieved zero downtime migration from virtual machines to Kubernetes clusters. This represented significant business value for us.
